Toby Whitehead is a Senior Clinical Cardiac Rehab Exercise Physiologist with advanced exercise training and more than a decade of experience. He has worked in various clinical and non-clinical settings in Bath, Brighton, and London. Toby Currently holds the position of Senior Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Physiologist at NHS Merton Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Cardiac Rehab Exercise

During his BSc & HND Toby took great interest in coronary heart disease. He completed two placements in hospital Phase III, before qualifying to teach in Phase IV. Since founding Bounceback Toby’s focus has been bringing innovative, fun, and effective cardiac rehab exercise to Sussex. This includes Phase IV cardiac rehab, healthy weight groups, and cardiac personal training.

Toby works with local heart groups, and has a great working partnership with the Sussex Heart Charity.

Continued training

Further training is very important to Toby. It keeps skills up to date and ensures the best possible experience for members. He holds a masters degree (MSc) in Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation. The course gives him a much deeper understanding of the complicated mix of causes and treatment options. Throughout the MSc he has also continued with extra BACPR courses.

Toby is a member and contributor of the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR), British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) and the British Association of Sports and Exercise Science (BASES). He has also achieved REP’s highest accreditation with Level 4 Advanced Exercise instructor status.

Outside of Work…

Keeping fit and enjoying exercise has always been part of Toby’s lifestyle. He is a particularly passionate cyclist and often cycles various parts of the South Downs on his mountain bike. He raises money for charity taking part in cycling challenges such as the Off Road London to Brighton Challenge.

Toby also plays Ultimate Frisbee and has done for nearly ten years. He plays this competitive, high intensity, and very fun sport both indoors and outdoors.

When Toby is not sporting he has a passion for music and cooking, and has been known to enjoy the occasional farm cider.
